No Clear End Date for Iran-US Ceasefire as Deadline Approaches

JD Vance's trip to Pakistan has been postponed. The ceasefire between Iran and the United States is approaching its expected deadline, but both sides have offered no confirmation of when it will officially end, creating uncertainty over the next steps.

4:50 am Pakistan time (7:50 pm ET) is the consensus but Trump touted 4:50 pm tomorrow. Several reports from Pakistan have said that the ceasefire ends at 4:50 am ET Pakistan time, which is 7:50 pm New York time today.

The truce was originally agreed as a short, temporary pause in hostilities to allow space for diplomatic efforts, yet no formal decision has been announced about extending it. Planned peace talks in Islamabad remain uncertain because Iran has not confirmed whether it will send a delegation, and U.S. officials have also not finalized participation.

Key disagreements — including the U.S. naval presence near Iranian ports, restrictions on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, and the status of shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz — continue to stall progress.

Both governments have issued mixed signals: Washington warns it may not extend the ceasefire without meaningful diplomatic movement, while Tehran insists it will not negotiate “under pressure” or while facing military threats. As a result, with major issues unresolved and no official announcement from either side, the ceasefire’s exact end date remains unclear, increasing regional tension and raising concerns about a possible return to open conflict.
